A Teen's Guide to Walt Disney World

A reference for the traveling teen.

Typhoon Lagoon

Typhoon Lagoon has the very unique Crush ‘N Gusher water coaster, and you can snorkel with small sharks at Shark Reef. The wave pool at Typhoon Lagoon has bigger waves, which makes it well-suited to teens and adults. The tropical landscaping means there are more shady spots for getting out of the  hot Florida sun.

Surf lessons are offered at Typhoon Lagoon few days a week. Sessions last for three hours and they’re held before the park opens for the day. This means you could need to be at Typhoon Lagoon as early as 5:45AM, depending on the park hours for the day. The cost is about $150 per person and includes board rental.  Experienced surfers beware: the Disney surfboards will not be like the boards that you are used to. They don’t have fins on the bottom, so they are nearly impossible to turn and they’re made out of high-density foam so that no one will get hurt if a board hits them in the head. But surfable waves are guaranteed!

Typhoon Lagoon also offers after-hours surf parties, but they must be arranged in advance. These parties will normally have at least 100 waves.
